Pay Day Wish List

After spending all of my hard earned pennies on all the fabric I bought on my recent holiday, not only have I crossed a bunch off of my wish list but I also have too much fabric! (If that is such a thing.) So with that in mind I have recently been hunting for new patterns to try and put all this fabric to good use. So this Pay Day wish list is pattern packed!

While I am yet to make a Named Pattern, their new pattern collection looks set to to change that. The styling, the modern styles. I love! So there are quite a few on my wish list but I think the one I am lusting after the most is the Helmi Tunic. I like the relaxed fit tunic and the neckline. But I think the shirt will be great to layer under pinafores or paired with skirts in the winter.

Since making my Butterick B5030 I can’t get enough of wrap dresses. Why has it taken me so long to wear them? They are so flattering! We all know I love the Wear Lemonade patterns but I really like the Dita and I like the fact it can be worn either way. From the promotional mages I’ve seen I think I really like the wrap at the back.

I’ve always loved Madalynne’s bra patterns so when I heard she was bringing out patterns with Simplicity I was eager to try them. So these two patterns were high on my wish list. They were quickly taken off my wish list and put into my pattern collection when I saw the Simplicity patterns at half price over on Jaycotts. If anyone has any recommendations of places to buy lace lingerie fabric do let me know in the comments below!

What are you lusting over this pay day? Has anyone tried any of these patterns? Let me know in the comments below

July Sewing Haul

Right so let me start off by saying that this video has been the biggest pain. I’ve had to film it three times and I think it has been uploading for about 6 hours. Was it worth it? Hopefully! Regardless but here is my latest sewing haul.

Thanks again to everyone who has subscribed. I know I’ve been a bit patchy on the blogging front recently but it is now the summer holidays (woo!) so I have lots of sewing planned and quite a few posts lined up so stay tuned.

As I am planning new posts and videos let me know what you’d like to see in the comments. What’s everyone been making? What have you been buying?

Me Made May 2016 – Round Up

Tuesday 31st May 2016… we made it. It’s the end of May and therefore, sadly, the end of Me Made May 2016.

So I managed to do it. I successfully wore a Me Made item everyday for the month of May. Here is my original pledge.

I didn’t manage to wear a different piece each day, which I always knew was unrealistic but I did pretty well. I was very impressed with how my me made wardrobe held up.

You can catch up with all my previous weekly roundups here, here and here.

My Favourite Me Mades

My Lisette. I love the shape, the colour, the pattern and it’s damn comfortable.

Can you tell I like my Miette? Can you tell I like that pink colour? Enough said.

This dress always gets compliments. It has elephants holding balloons – oh, and it’s pink!

I love the colour of this dress and these hidden bunny buttons are so cute!

I also managed to sneak in my me made shoes.

So what did I learn?

I learnt that lots of my me made items are colourful and have lots of pattern. Before this I had thought about whether this is something I should change, but what, Me Made May has shown me is that these are things that make my wardrobe mine and I like that.

I learnt that I have so much more I want to sew but I didn’t do anywhere near enough sewing this May.  While I managed to wear lots of me mades, May was a super hectic month.

I’ve been taking a pattern cutting course at LCF. I’ve learnt SO much and I can’t wait to put it all into practise. I have so many plans…

I also made a custom order for a band!

The Tuts Dresses by Dominique www.dominiquemajor.wordpress.com

The Tuts are an all-girl band who have just recorded their debut album and I made 70s style pinafores for their upcoming music video.

I’ll be putting together a post when the video actually comes out but here are a sneak peek of the dresses. I’d love to do more things like this, so if you are in the market for a new dress do contact me.

All in all I didn’t even have much of chance for some selfless sewing. So my aim for June is to add more me made pieces to my wardrobe.

This was my first year taking part in Me Made May and I’m so glad I did. I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone’s Me Made May makes and enjoyed the thought I’ve had to put into my wardrobe for the month of May. So thanks to So Zo for setting up this challenge it’s been great.

How did you do this Me Made May 2016? What’s everyone’s me made plans now that May is over? Let me know in the comments below.

Me Made May 2016 – Week 2

Whoah! Week 2 of Me Made May has been a busy one!

My working week has felt like the longest ever and my to do list doesn’t seem to be shrinking! But I unleashed my teen fan girl self at a Busted gig at Wembley and completed day 2 of my Pattern Making course at LCF.

I’m still going strong with my Me Made May pledge of wearing at least one me made item each day. So check out what I’ve been wearing this week and find out my Me Made May thoughts at the end.

 Day 8

A hot, hot, hot Sunday was spent at the beach wearing this hacked Simplicity 1166 skirt complete with Cath Kidston heart buttons to match my trusty bandana.

Day 9

Clearly I was feeling red early in the week because I spent Monday wearing my Tilly and the Buttons Miette skirt in a red linen, which looks lovely but creases so easily! I paired it with my favourite Cribs t-shirt.

Day 10

The warm weather didn’t stick around for too long and by Tuesday the tights were back on with Simplicity, Cynthia Rowley 1105. I love how easy this dress is to wear and despite it being covered up a cardigan all day I love this bow detailing on the back.

Day 11

So if you know me, Busted were my favourite band growing up. I mean I was obsessed! Imagine my delight when they decided to reunite 12 years after their break up. Sheer joy! Anyway I digress, for this wonderful day I wore my Tilly and the Buttons Arielle skirt in a maroon cord. When i went to work I paired it with my striped top and swapped this for black body suit for the evening. More action from my bandana and the Busted scarf I’ve kept since I was 13.

Day 12

I can’t go long without wearing colour and print, so by Thursday I was back in this Simplicity dress in this gorgeous floral fabric I bought last year in Copenhagen

Day 13

Another Copenhagen fabric, this time for my self drafted skirt. By Friday I was exhausted so I was keeping it casual with this outfit.

Day 14

This is one of my favourite dresses. It fits so well and this Liberty fabric is just perfect. It was day 2 of my Pattern Cutting course at LCF so I spent the day working with these tiny blocks, how cute!

So that’s Week 2 done. You may have noticed I wasn’t feeling having my picture taken this week, so lots of flat lays

What I have learnt?

While I know I don’t need to wear a different me made piece for the whole of May, what I’ve realised this week is that I’m nearing the end of being able to wear something different each day. I’ve also realised I’ve been slacking with sewing recently, I have a whole pile of fabric just waiting to be sewn and showcased this May. Therefore, my aim for this next week is to make myself at least one new thing. Check back next week to see if I manage to do it.

How was your second week of Me Made May 16? How is your me made wardrobe holding up? What have you learnt? Let me know in the comments below.

Day 6

Day 7

Screen Shot 2016-05-07 at 22.32.04

Back to school in another unknown Simplicity pattern dress in this fab sunflower fabric.

What have I learnt?

So from this first week, I’ve learnt that the majority of my handmade wardrobe is full of brightly coloured and patterned summer dresses. I’ve wanted to wear more skirts but apart from my Miette I don’t really have any appropriate for bare legs in this warmer weather. Also, I would like to make more tops because none of my Me Made skirts have anything to be paired with. Perhaps some jersey basic tops would be a good addition, something like the Tilly and the Buttons Agnes or even the Nettie bodysuit.

So I’ve managed to keep up with my daily photography and hope to do the same throughout the month of May.

However May is shaping up to be a super busy month. I’ve just started a pattern cutting course at LCF and my to-do lists just seems to be growing and growing. I can’t complain too much though, I’m working on some super exciting things. It’s just a shame I don’t have any time for some selfish sewing at the moment.

How was your first week of Me Made May? What have you learnt so far and what’s now on sewing list?

Handmade Style – Floral Dresses

My name is Dominique and I love floral dresses!

Ok, this isn’t anything new but I can’t help myself. I see colour, I see print of the floral kind and I have to have it. It’s therefore no surprise that the majority of my handmade wardrobe is made up of this.

So this is a post in honour of my love for floral dresses.

I’ve picked my top 5 dresses.

Simplicity 1157 (Project Runway inspired) made in a green floral fabric that I bought in Stof 2000, Copenhagen, a fab fabric store that was perfectly positioned right next to my hotel.

The back of this dress (not shown) is open and I decided to add bunny buttons at the back. Very spring appropriate.

Simplicity 1105 (Cynthia Rowley) made in a John Lewis sale bargain fabric. With its flowy shape this  dress is great for hot summer days. I wore this when I went to Palm Springs and it was perfect. I did have to take it in a little bit because the trapezium shape was even a bit too much for me.

New Look 6223 with adapted neckline. (I think?!)  This is one of my favourites. The fabric is bold (John Lewis sale bargain) but it is so easy to wear. I love the hidden bees that are dotted around.

Tilly and the Buttons-Lilou made in, you guessed it, another John Lewis sale bargain. Again, another great dress to throw on and let the fabric do the talking. This Lilou has a gathered waist and a looser shape which is great when the weather is warmer and you don’t want to deal with fabric sticking to you.

Simplicty 1419 Lisette (I believe this has been discontinued though…)  Yes, another John Lewis fabric! I’m a teacher, I get John Lewis gift cards and I spend them on fabric.  I love how bold this fabric is, and the dress has pockets so it’s super practical.

That’s it, my favourite floral dresses.

Do you love florals? Share some of your favourite floral makes with me, I’d love to see them!
